Welcome to genREACH

GenREACH (Genomics Outreach) is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to conducting world-class community outreach and bioethics in health research, in addition to project co-ordination and implementation.

GenREACH is specifically involved in five main areas:

  1. Thoughtfully communicating the latest scientific advances to the public
  2. Collaborating with Centre for Genetic Epidemiology scientists to ensure their research is done according to the highest ethical standards
  3. Engaging with and addressing the ethical, legal and social consequences of health research
  4. Advising research scientists of community opinion on their research
  5. Project management of projects like the Joondalup Family Health Study, WA Twin Register and WA Sleep Health Study

By working with both the community and researchers, we hope to build an environment for world-class and ethical health research to improve the wellbeing of all Western Australians.

GenREACH is responsible for co-ordinating the "community engagement program" for the Joondalup Family Health Study. In addition, genREACH either administers or is involved in a number of innovative state-wide community education projects about health research (please see "Projects"). GenREACH are members of the P3G (Public Population Projects in Genomics) Ethics, Governance and Public Policy International Working Group, and has many links with WA's research, hospital and health communities.
